What We Believe

What We Believe

We are a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). We believe in the Triune God. God created and loves all of creation – the earth and the seas and all of the world’s inhabitants. We believe that God’s Son, Jesus Christ, transforms lives through his death on the cross and his new life, and we trust that God’s Spirit is active in the world.

We believe we are part of God’s unfolding plan. When we gather for worship, we connect with believers everywhere. When we study the Bible or hear God’s word in worship, we are drawn more deeply into God’s own saving story.

We believe that the Bible is the written word of God. It creates and nurtures faith through the work of the Holy Spirit and points us to Jesus Christ, the living Word and center of our faith. We believe that in reading the Bible, we are invited into a relationship with God that both challenges us and promises us new life.

We believe in the convictions shared by Christians from many different traditions as expressed in the statements known as The Apostles’ Creed and The Nicene Creed. These ecumenical creeds that we affirm and use in worship confess the faith of the church through the ages and around the world.

We believe that God loves all people, and desires to build a loving and just relationship with everyone. For that reason, we strive to build loving and just relationships within the congregation and with all others in the world.

Worship, Word and Sacraments

We believe that Christ is present, when we gather for worship and hear God's word. We believe that Christ is present - in, with and under the bread and wine of Holy Communion. And we believe that Christ is present in in the life giving waters of Holy Baptism. We believe the Sacrament of Holy Communion is a gift to the entire church. We recognize that ultimately this is God's table and any person seeking to be fed from it will not be turned away.
