Adult Bible Study

Christ Lutheran Church currently offers a mid-week Bible Study opportunity for adults.  We meet on Wednesday mornings from 10:00 am until 11:30 am.

While every disciple is a believer, not every believer is necessarily a disciple.

Many may think that the term disciple refers only to the early followers of Christ. We know that they were a praying, worshipping, loving, giving, and evangelizing group of men and women who refused to keep the truth of the gospel to themselves. Yet, God still desires disciples today ~ ordinary people like you and me whom God can use to do extraordinary things.

Our Adult Bible Study Group meets Wednesday mornings from 10:00 am – 11:30 am during the fall, winter and spring.  We meet as a group to explore the assigned Gospel texts for the season. You need not attend every week to participate and all are welcome!  This Bible Study is led by Pastor Krister.

Our study resumes on Wednesday, September 20, 2017.   All are welcome!

Sr. High Bible Study

Our senior high youth group, J.O.L.T. (Jesus Our Lader and Teacher) meets every Thursday night during the school year for study.  Rooted in Faith is our current emphasis where we are exploring various faith practices necessary for deepening our relationships with God.  J.O.L.T. meets Thursday evenings during the school year from 7:00-8:30 pm.

Confirmation Studies

Confirmation Studies or Catechism in the Lutheran Church is intended to provide specialized instruction in what it means to be a child of God.  The Catechism program at Christ Lutheran Church does this and is designed to not just be a "weekly event," rather a three year long experience (typically 6th – 8th grade) intended to :

  1. provide young people foundations of Lutheran Theology emphasizing the concept of God’s grace, the sacraments in the Lutheran Church – Baptism and Communion, the Lord’s Prayer, Apostles’ Creed, Ten Commandments and the Bible.
  2. provide young people with real tools to build a lifelong relationship with our Triune God, living out their baptisms. (some tools being: understanding the importance of attending worship, learning how to pray, using the commandments as a mirror, guard and guide, etc.)
  3. provide a positive and fun Christ-centered atmosphere where young people feel included, loved and secure.

The catechism experience is culminated with the young person’s decision to re-affirm their own baptisms through Confirmation which traditionally happens in May of a student’s 8th Grade year.

Confirmation Studies are held at Christ Lutheran each Thursday from 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm during the school year.  Classes are offered free of charge to all.  Retreats, camp, service projects and fellowship events are incorporated into the program throughout the year. Register above or please contact Sandra Cox at sandy@christsterling.org or (586) 731-1113

Active Faith Formation (formerly known as Sunday School...)

Active Faith Formation, our Sunday School program, meets year around during the 9:30 Service and begins immediately after the Children’s Message. Classes are offered for preschoolers age 3, through 5th graders. We are currently using the 'Spark Rotation Dive Deep Into Bible Stories' curriculum.  It's active and lots of fun!

Elementary Bible Study

Our elementary youth group K.L.I.C.K. (Kids Living in Christ Kingdom) meets on the second Wednesday of each month during the school year from 6:30 pm until 7:30 pm.  During the 2017-2018 School Year we will be starting a new program, Finding God Throughout the Year...  All children 4 years through 5th grade are warmly welcomed to join us, as we find God together!

First Communion Workshop

Christ Lutheran Church offers an annual First Communion Preparation workshop.  Typically children in grades 2 and above are invited to participate.  If however, your child is younger than this, you feel he/she is ready and you would like him/her to participate, this is certainly okay and we welcome their presence.

First Communion Workshop 2018

2018 Date TBD

Please contact Beth Paulo at sandy@christsterling.org or the church office at (586) 731-1113 to register.

How do you know if your child is ready?   Our congregation has been offering first communion preparation for over 30 years and it has been our experience that in general, children of this age group possess the intellectual capacity, as well as the physical and emotional ability to participate in this workshop and begin to grasp the true greatness of this sacrament.
